Cal Football: Quarterbacks Sharper on Saturday Than They Were Friday

Cal had two consecutive days in full pads on Friday and Saturday, and offensive coordinator Beau Baldwin admitted quarterbacks Chase Garbers and Devon Modster looked better on Saturday than they did Friday.

"The first day in full pads they were, let's say solid, but to me we missed some things late in practice," said Baldwin in the video on Sunday, "whereas yesterday I thought they were more sustained through the entire practice.

"I thought they made good jumps from Day One to Day Two."

Baldwin said the separation between Garbers and Modster in the quarterbacks competition has not increased or decreased. It continues to appear that Garbers will be the starter in the August 31 opener against UC Davis.

Modster still needs to be cleared by the NCAA to be eligible to play in the opener.
