Cal Football Video: Ashtyn Davis -- 'If Somebody Goes Low, I Jump Over Them'

Ashytn Davis is a valuable commodity for two reasons: He is one of the top safeties in the Pac-12, and is also among the best kickoff returners, making him one of Cal's stars.

His 26.2 yards per kick return last year ranked second in the Pac-12 and 17th in the country. He also returned one kick for a touchdown. Athlon named him a preseason second-team all-conference kick returner.

He says he has no fear when returning kicks.

"Not for me," Davis said in the video. "I kind of just look for space, hit it hard. If somebody goes low, I jump over them; somebody goes low, I just lower my shoulder."

You often see Davis jump over potential tacklers, and it makes sense because he was a second-team All-American in track as a hurdler in 2018.

Hurdling players used to be illegal. Cal was penalized when Russell White hurdled a Purdue player back in 1991. Davs had never heard of White.
