Cal Football Video: Bears Offensive Tackle Will Craig Done for the Season
Cal's offensive line suffered another blow, as left offensive tackle Will Craig will be lost for the season with a lower-body injury, Cal head coach Justin Wilcox announced Monday. Craig did not play in Saturday's game against Washington.
Craig is the second starting offensive lineman to be lost for the season. Gentle Williams was scheduled to be a starting guard, but he was ruled out for the season the week before the Bears played their opener against UC Davis. Redshirt freshman Matthew Cindric replaced Williams, and true freshman McKade Mettauer replaces Craig. Mettauer started at guard with Valentino Daltoso moving out to left tackle after starting the season at guard.
Mettauer got his first career start in Saturday's 20-19 victory over Washington, and the Bears' offensive line performed well in the second half against the Huskies. As Wilcox noted in the video, the offensive line had some struggles in the first half, but played much better in the second. Cal had just four possessions in the second half, but three of them were scoring drives of more than 70 yards.
Mettauer was satisfied with his performance, as he noted in this video.
