Cal broke into the national rankings this week at No. 23 in both the AP media poll and the coaches poll.

Asked how he feels about being ranked, Cal linebacker Kuony Deng said, after some hesitation, "Cool."

He quickly added, "Honestly it doesn't mean much; we're three weeks into the season. . . . we haven't accomplished any of our long-term goals."

The Bears (3-0) face a challenge this week when they take on Mississippi (2-1) in Oxford, Miss., on Saturday in a game that starts at 11 a.m. Central time.

As of Monday, Mississippi is rated as a two-point favorite in the game.

It will be hot, with the temperature expected to reach 89 degrees in Oxford on Saturday. But it is not expected to be particularly muggy, with the forecast calling for 51 percent humidity in Oxford on Saturday. By comparison, the humidity in Berkeley is expected to be above 60 percent Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week.
