Cal Football Video: The Wit & Wisdom of Evan Weaver, Part 12 -- Balancing Act

Jeff Faraudo

Linebacker Evan Weaver is about to begin his senior season at Cal and also his senior year as a student.

“There’s nothing like being a student-athlete here,” he said. “All the fans see is what we do on Saturdays.”

The life of an athlete at Cal is more complicated than that, Weaver says. He estimates that players put in two to four hours each day to get their bodies prepared for the grind of the 12-game schedule.

And there are the academic demands at the nation’s top-rated public university.

In the video above, Weaver ponders whether classroom work is taken quite as seriously at every school.

“Here, we value our degrees.”

(Weaver named preseason first-team All-American by Athlon.)
