Cal outside linebacker Cam Goode had 1.5 of Cal's five sacks on Saturday and 2.5 of the Bears' six tackles for losses, putting him among the Pac-12 leaders in both categories, but it was hard for him to explain how the Bears' defense allowed Oregon State to drive for the winning touchdown.

His 4.5 sacks for the season place him third in the conference in that category, and his 8.5 tackles for loss put him second in that statistic.

But Goode's productive performance could not prevent the Bears from suffering a 21-17 loss to Oregon State, which was Cal's third straight defeat.

The Beavers scored two first-half touchdowns to take a 14-0 lead, but the Cal defense stood tall for most of the second half while Cal rallied for a 17-14 lead. In fact, Oregon State got past its own 35-yard line on only one of its first five possessions of the second half, and never seriously threatened on any of them.

But on the sixth possession, which started with 9:33 left in the game, the Beavers marched 80 yards in 12 plays to take a 21-17 lead.

In the video, Goode pointed to mental mistakes on that drive.

"We were feeling good, we were feeling food about the last drive obviously," Goode said. "We were confident, excited to hopefully pull it out for the team, but it was just mental errors really that it came down to. It wasn't anything physical.

"We just realize we got to fix those mental errors, and make the checks and calls, get it cleaned up for next week."

Cal (4-3) faces No. 12 Utah in Salt Lake City on Saturday night.
