Washington State coach Mike Leach started his postgame iterview video by suggesting media members listened in on his speech to his players following the Cougars' 33-20 loss to Cal Saturday night.

"Well  think we've definitely regressed," Leach said. "As coaches we have not been able to turn this into a consistently tough team. Some of all this nicey nice positive stuff we've experimented with, well, that experiment failed.

"And I also think that somehow it's got to be meaningful enough to the players. As coaches we've got to make it meaningful and at some point, some of these players it's got to mean something to them to go out there and play well. We got too many people who to be easy too often."

Obviously Leach was not pleased with his team's fortitude.

"As soon as it gets difficult, then we wilt," he said.

And later.

"We're too soft and too undisciplined to do what we're coached to do," Leach said. "And as coaches we're not able to get the message through somehow."

And later.

"As a team we're almost oxic on third down. both sides," he said.

And later.

"The only team we had today that played well today is field-goal block," said Leach, whose team blocked a Cal extra point and a field-goal attempt.

What were the problems on offense?

"Very soft; we thought the other team shlould roll over for us. We thought 'Goodie, we're coming back home,' As soon as something doesn't go our way, we wilt and pout on the sideline.

"To be perfectly honest, I've had less talented teams play better."

Reminded that Wasngton State kicker Blake Mazza made two field gols, Leach said, "Good for Blake. OK, another bright spot, Blake Mazza. OK, so there, we're good at field-goal block and we're good at kicking field goals. So, yeah, we're terribly excited about that."
