Cal center Michael Saffell returned to game against against Washington State after missing two games with injuries, and his presence made a difference.

The obvious improvement is that Cal scored a season-high 33 points in its 33-20 victory over Washington State one week after geting shut out 35-0 by Utah.

"It was so fun being back with the guys," Saffell said in the video on Monday.

Saffell missed the second half of last season with an injury, so he was pleased to be playing again.

Obviously having Saffell back was important in itself. He was on the preseason watch list for the Rimington Award, which goes to the nation's top center. But it was also important for other reasons.

"I think it's good just to move guys back to their natural position," he said.

Matthew Cindric, who played center in Saffell's absence, moved back to his guard position.
