Cal Baseball Video: Do Bears' Postseason Hopes Rest With Arizona State Series?

Jake Curtis

Cal opens a three-game series against Arizona State tonight (Friday) at Cal's Evans Diamond, and, for the moment, it appears both teams are likely to be invited to the postseason tournament.

This week both D1Baseball and Baseball America projected the Bears to be a No. 2 seed in one of the 16 four-team regionals in the 64-team postseason field. That leaves the Bears a little wiggle room, but a poor finish in the final six games -- three this weekend against Arizona State, and three next weekend at Washington -- could put Cal out of the postseason playoffs for the fourth straight year.

Cal coach Mike Neu notes in the video that Cal plans to just keep doing what it has been doing and let the postseason berth take care of itself.

If the selection committee comes to a point where it can take either Cal or ASU but not both, this series will be critical.

The series may have plenty of long balls as ASU and Cal rank first and third in the nation in home runs per game, respectively. The headline for the series? Big Bang Theory.

Cal baseball fans . . . just wondering if you believe the Bears will find a spot in the NCAA tournament field? What do they have to achieve this weekend vs. ASU to assure themselves a berth?
