Cal Golf: Collin Morikawa Returns to Bay Area to Finish 10th at Safeway Open
Former Cal star Collin Morikawa, playing in the Bay Area for the first time as a professional, finished in a tie for 10th place at the Safeway Open at the Silverado Resort in Napa on Sunday.
Morikawa shot a final-round one-under par 71 and wound up in a three-way tie for 10th at minus-11. His best day was Friday, when he completed the second round in eight-under 64.
Cameron Champ won the title with a 17-under score of 271, earning $1,188,000. Morikawa took home a payday of $166,650.
During his abbreviated rookie season as a professional, which began after Morikawa’s senior season at Cal, he wound up No. 60 on the final 2018-19 money list with $1,754,890, including $152,000 from the FexEx Cup bonus pool.
Another former Cal player, Max Homa, finished in a tie for 62nd at the Safeway Open with an even-par score of 288. Byeong-Hun An, also formerly of Cal, failed to make the cut on Friday.
