Duke - Georgia State Gameday Open Thread

Updates & analysis from courtside as Duke looks to ascend to No. 1 in the country.

Duke looks to go 4-0 on the season with a game against the Georgia State Panthers, Friday at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The game is the second and final contest in the on-campus round of the 2K Empire Classic Benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project.

Duke’s win over Central Arkansas in Tuesday was also part of the event, which concludes next weekend at Madison Square Garden with games against Cal and either Georgetown or Texas.

Georgia State is 1-1 with a school record victory margin over Brewton-Parker, 104-35 and a four- point loss to Charleston.

The Panthers start four guards averaging in double figures and have a fifth coming off the bench.

They’re led by Kane Williams, who was second team all Sun Belt in the preseason and Detroit transfer Corey Allen, who won Horizon Conference Rookie of the year in 2017 before transferring.

The pair average 25.5 ppg and 5.5 assists.

in the middle, Georgia State has freshman Joe Jones III, who is averaging 4.5 ppg. After a steady diet of senior and junior big men, the freshman should be a welcome sight for Duke big man Vernon Carey.

Tre Jones is warming up for the team. As Coach K expected, the injury will apparently not keep him out
