Noah Gray: Missing a Bowl Would Hurt Our Pride

Tight end has been to a bowl every year at Duke

While coach David Cutcliffe doesn’t want his players worrying about bowl eligibility, it’s only natural that it would be a topic of discussion on the team.

Tight end Noah Gray, who has ended his season with a bowl in both of his years at Duke, said that some of the older players know the importance of making the postseason.

“We have lot of guys on the team that were on the team before I was there, when we didn’t make a bowl,” he said. “They’ve definitely talked about it, how much of a struggle it was just not making a bowl game, how much that hurt their pride, how much it means to our seniors now to move forward into the post season. I’m really looking forward to the task ahead.”

The offense has been sputtering lately and struggled against Notre Dame last week, managing just seven points.

“That always hurts as an offense,” he said. “You never want to go out there and score seven points total, not have a whole lot of yards and a whole lot of success as an offense. When we’re out here at practice, we know that we’ve got that edge on our shoulder, that we need to perform better, not only for defense, not only for our coaches and each other but for the fans that come out and watch us. Being able to go out there and execute our jobs and our assignments well moving forward is a huge priority for our offense as a whole.”
