After a week hiatus from Florida football, the No. 6 Gators are back and ready to roll into Jacksonville for - and stop me if you've heard me say this before this season - their biggest game of 2019.
Against their biggest rival, the No. 8 Georgia Bulldogs.
Postseason implications - for both the SEC Championship and the College Football Playoffs - are on the line with this game. Georgia still has a bit of a tough slate ahead of them following the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, but should Florida pull off a victory at TIAA Bank Field this upcoming Saturday at 3:30 P.M., their path to Atlanta will become very clear and straightforward.
Hear what Gators' head coach Dan Mullen, quarterback Kyle Trask, wide receiver Josh Hammond, defensive end Jonathan Greenard, and cornerback Marco Wilson have to say on the subject, and stick around the GatorMaven live blog for today's press conference.
Mullen is set to begin speaking at 12:30 P.M., from Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, FL.
1:31 P.M.: UPDATE - Defensive end Jonathan Greenard and cornerback Marco Wilson will now speak after practice tonight instead of at the podium. That wraps up today's presser.
1:24 P.M.: "I don't know if you 'save' plays, you look at plays and say 'We haven't gotten to use that yet'. I don't know if we've ever saved plays." - Mullen on the idea of saving certain plays for certain opponents.
1:23 P.M.: "This is our third Top 10 matchup, and he's played in the other two... He's played in some big games already, I'm confident that he can execute the gameplan." - Mullen on his confidence in Kyle Trask heading into his first start against Georgia.
1:21 P.M.: "He does a great job managing games. He gets them into the right place, he makes good decisions... he's an accurate passer and that's what you want." - Mullen on Georgia QB Jake Fromm
1:19 P.M.: "We had a couple more missed tackles against South Carolina than we did against LSU..." - Mullen says of Florida's tackling issue. The Gators need to clean this issue up against Georgia and their stud running back, D'Andre Swift.
1:18 P.M.: "He's done a really good job of having himself ready to go and preparing himself within the gameplan." - Mullen on QB Emory Jones.
1:17 P.M.: "If our guys aren't juiced for the game, we have problems. This is what you come to Florida for, for big games." - Mullen on the impact the Florida/Georgia rivalry has on his team.
1:14 P.M.: Mullen says they're still working with the NCAA on defensive end Brenton Cox's eligibility waiver.
1:14 P.M.: "I think the nice thing we do offensively is we spread the ball around to the guys... he'll hopefully get some touches but we take what the defense gives us... offensively, we let the defense dictate who gets the ball." - Mullen on Kadarius Toney's role going forward.
1:10 P.M.: "All you can really control is winning the East... beyond that, everyone is voting for you. I think that's important, getting into November in first place in the East." - Mullen on the implications of Florida vs. Georgia.
1:08 P.M.: "It's been there since 1933, except for twice. That's a long time, a lot of history involved in that... It's a really unique scene for college football." - Mullen on Florida vs. Georgia remaining in Jacksonville.
1:07 P.M.: Kadarius Toney practiced last week, per Mullen.
1:05 P.M.: Head coach Dan Mullen is next up at the podium.
12:49 P.M.: "KT [Kadarius Toney] is a playmaker. Anytime you get him the ball in space, he's going to make a play." - Trask on the return of Kadarius Toney from a shoulder injury.
12:47 P.M.: "Every week, I try to focus on improving at least one thing. I think one thing I've improved on the most is my consistency." - Trask on what he's improved on as Florida's starting QB.
12:46 P.M.: "It very well could be." - Kyle Trask on if Florida vs. Georgia is, basically, a playoff game.
12:44 P.M.: "We've been getting better in the run game week to week. It comes back to communication... we've just done a great job gelling together and always making sure we're on the same page." - Kyle Trask on the Gators' run game improvement.
12:43 P.M.: Kyle Trask on preparing for Georgia: "This game is going to be a big environment. I've been in big environments before, and that will give me extra confidence going into a game like this."
12:43 P.M.: "I think they're very disciplined. They don't give up free plays on busted coverages. They're well-coached." - Trask says of Georgia's pass defense.
12:41 P.M.: "I think it's a big game, not only for me but our team for where we're at in the season right now." - QB Kyle Trask on his first start vs. Georgia
12:33 P.M.: "It's great to have KT [Kadarius Toney] back," says Hammond. "He brings a whole different aspect... with the things he can do with the ball in his hands. We can use him in a lot of different ways to throw defenses off.
12:32 P.M.: "The biggest thing for him is getting back into the flow of things," Hammond says of Kadarius Toney's return to practice.
12:31 P.M.: On QB Kyle Trask's performance so far, Hammond says "He's handled it really well. Kyle's always been a guy that's calm and poised... Once he got thrown in the fire, there wasn't any doubt on the team's mind."
12:30 P.M.: Wide receiver Josh Hammond is first at the podium. "They're competing for the same thing we're competing for," he says of Georgia.
12:20 P.M.: Florida's No. 6 ranking in the AP Top 25 is their highest position in the poll since December 2nd, 2012, when the Gators sat at No. 4.
12:20 P.M.: A stat I would not have guessed but just found out reading the Week 10 media guide: Florida is allowing only 3.8 yards per carry, good for fourth in the SEC. After allowing 435 rushing yards and 6.49 yards per carry over their past two games, I figured this number would be higher.
12:10 P.M.: Not football related, but here is the Gators' projected starting lineup for men's basketball. Florida faces Lynn in an exhibition game from the O'Connell Center tomorrow night at 7 P.M.
