On Thursday, the Gators saw one of their most beloved special teams players face off against the Houston Texans as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. Punter Tommy Townsend was signed to the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent immediately following the draft, and his NFL debut did not disappoint.

On the day, Townsend punted three times with an average of 45.3 net yards with a long of 54 yards. For reference, Jacksonville Jaguars punter Logan Cooke led the NFL last season with a net average yardage of 44.5 in 2019.

So far, so good, for Townsend and Gators special teamers.
