Metairie, La., running back prospect Harlem Berry trimmed his list of schools in contention from five to three on Monday afternoon. He included the Florida Gators alongside the home state LSU Tigers and Texas Longhorns as the trio of programs moving forward in contention for his services.

The 2025 ball carrier will choose his collegiate destination on Dec. 18.

Rated as the top running back — and No. 23 overall player per 247Sports Composite — Berry became a priority target for the Gators even before they extended their June 20 offer.

Showcasing elite-level speed, elusiveness and ball carrier vision since his freshman year at the prep level, the St. Martin's Episcopal School product is expected to produce as a three-down caliber skill position player upon his arrival to college football.

Florida has leaned on Berry's relationship with running backs coach Jabbar Juluke — Berry’s uncle — in their attempt to lure him to Gainesville.

While reciprocating the interest to the point of including UF in his top three, plucking him away from Louisiana and LSU remains an uphill climb.

Berry was in Death Valley on Saturday for the Gators' 52-35 loss to the Tigers.

However, Florida aims to capitalize on the talented backfield prospect's connection to Juluke in order to pin down a monumental pledge from one of the cycle's best ball carriers.

Napier and Co. currently hold one pledge in the 2025 class from Plant (Fla.) running back Waltez Clark. Juluke intends to stockpile two to three pieces at this position in 2025, depending on how UF closes out the current cycle.

Mississippi native Kahnen Daniels rests as the lone piece at the spot, but Florida continues to pursue the likes of Arkansas commitment Jaden Baugh and former Nebraska pledge Kewan Lacy to round out the position.
