2020 UGA Recruiting: With the 6th ranked class currently, Georgia has work to do
Collegiate football programs are allotted 85 total scholarships but are allowed to sign no more than 25 players per class. As we sit today, Georgia's 2020 recruiting class has just 14 commits. (9) of those are 4-star prospects, with (2) 5-stars.
The current class ranks 6th in the country, but the only program in the top 25 of the rankings that have fewer commits are Auburn & Kentucky.
Georgia had (24) true freshmen enroll from the 2019 class this fall, and (2) transfers. So, it's safe to say the 2020 class may not be a full twenty-five, but let's call it an even twenty-two. That leaves 8 spots left for additional commits. So, let's play a little game of Elite 8.
Here's how we rank the targets left on the board:
1.) Kelee Ringo, CB
Ringo is hands down the nation's best cornerback in the 2020 class. The 6'2" 205-pound corner from Arizona has an NFL prototype body already. Add on top of that 4.35 speed, and you've got an absolute specimen in the defensive backfield.
Ringo's recruitment has been a two-team race for quite some time, between UGA and Texas, though 247sports.com has 62% of its crystal ball predictions in Georgia's favor.
2.) Kendall Milton, RB
Milton is currently the 3rd ranked runner for 2020, and despite Zachary Evans (the nation's #1 back) at one point being a target for Georgia, their attention has been fully directed to Kendall Milton.
And he's by no way a consolation prize, he's an incredible back. His short area quickness and ability to maintain balance, seemingly bouncing off would-be tacklers is beyond his years.
Milton's announcement date is set for July 29th, and (23) experts from 247sports.com have submitted their crystal ball predictions. 72% of them have Milton choosing the Dawgs.
3.) Arik Gilbert, ATH
Though Arik Gilbert is easily the nation's best Tight End, the "Athlete" clarification is indeed necessary because the young man's position is still up for decision. In fact, the recruitment of the soon to be star from Marrietta seemingly revolves around whether or not Arik wants to play Tight End for a winner, or Wide Receiver for whoever will let him do so.
Right now, it appears that Tennessee is the school that is willing to allow him to do so. With that being said, I still think Gilbert is Georgia's to lose.
I'm not saying he can't be a dominant wide receiver, but I am saying he can be the nation's best tight end one day soon, and hopefully, he's doing so in Red & Black.
4.) Cartavious "Tank" Bigsby, RB
It's believed that Georgia will take two running backs in the 2020 recruiting class. And for my money, Tank Bigsby, the Georgia born stud from Callaway high school has to be the second back on the board.
As you'd expect from a man with the nickname Tank, Bigsby runs extremely hard, has the shake to make ya miss, and has the speed to take it to the house. These types of abilities carried him to over 2200 yards as a junior last season. Take a look:
5.) Sedrick Van Pran, OL
The UGA 2020 class has taken a hit up front recently with the losses of Akinola Ogunbiyi & Andrew Raym, but it's still one of the nation's top 2 or 3 classes in terms of offensive linemen, as is expected with Sam Pittman at the helm.
Sedrick Van Pran is the latest #1 target up front for coach Pittman. And as Van Pran has already told us here on The Bulldog Maven, he would prefer to play in the SEC and Coach Pittman sees him as a guy that can play multiple positions, not just center.
Van Pran's value to this class has only increased over the last few weeks, especially with Raym's commitment to Oklahoma today. I'm fairly confident though that Pittman will seal the deal soon with a more than competent replacement such as SVP.
6.) Darnell Washington, ATH
It's not very often we are talking about 5-star football players that measure in at 6'7.5" 261 pounds. So, what can a guy with that type of frame do?
Well, the 4.78 forty yard dash is impressive considering the length he possesses, and obviously, he has an insane catch radius which makes him essentially always open. The only problem? He could potentially be topped out in terms of physical attributes, but hell he's already essentially a created player from your Madden dynasty team.
UGA is most likely on the outside looking in here when it comes to the young man from Vegas, but there's still a chance we could steal him from Bama.
7.) Noah Sewell, LB
It's important to note that this list is a "targets" list for Georgia and typically when you aim for targets, you aim for the ones you can actually hit. So, before you go getting angry because I ranked Noah Sewell and the next guy down at the bottom of this list, just know that they are down here because I just don't know if UGA makes it happen.
That being said, let's admire this athletic phenomenon that is Noah Sewell. We are talking about a 6'2 266-pound athlete that can do just about anything on a football field.
8.) Jordan Burch, DE
Mannnnnnnn, I want this guy in Athens bad. Why shouldn't UGA create a tradition of signing the nation's top defensive end? We got Nolan Smith last year, why not back it up with Jordan Burch?
Burch is the highest rated player in the 2020 class, and I just don't know if he's worth investing in because he's likely going to end up at Clemson, but he's playing it slow and we haven't heard much out of his camp in regards to a commitment.
What will it take for Burch to deny the instate monsters in Clemson, and the much less appealing option in South Carolina? I guess we will find out.
