Makenzie Meyer scored 21 points as the Iowa women's basketball team held on for an 86-81 win over North Alabama on Thursday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Meyer led four Hawkeyes in double figures. Kathleen Doyle had 20 points, Monika Czinano had 18 points, and freshman Gabbie Marshall had 13.

Iowa (2-0) led 35-34 at halftime, then extended the lead to as much as 12 points in the third quarter before North Alabama (2-1) rallied.

"We're glad to have the win," Iowa coach Lisa Bluder said. "That's a good team. A team that won 21 games last year with five veteran starters back. Those kids fight hard."

The Hawkeyes committed 18 turnovers, but had 25 assists on 34 field goals.

Marshall, in her first start, was 5-of-8 from the field, 3-of-5 in 3-pointers.

Iowa plays at Northern Iowa on Sunday.
