Iowa Football added another piece to its 2024 recruiting class on Saturday. Indiana running back Xavier Williams announced on social media that he was verbally committing to the Hawkeyes

"Iowa was the right place because I had a good connection with the coaching staff," he told HN. "I think I fit their run scheme well, and I think I can thrive there."

Williams (6-0, 225) also reported scholarship offers from Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Kent State, Eastern Michigan, Toledo, Miami (Ohio), Ball State, Bowling Green and others. Iowa offered at the end of last month, a few days after he visited campus.

"Now was the right time because I didn't want to wait once I had my decision," he said.

Williams rushed for 1,451 yards (6.5 YPC) and 13 touchdowns in 10 games as a junior, according to MaxPreps.com. He added seven receptions and completed his only throw for 42 yards.

247Sports ranks the St. John (IN) Lake Central standout as a three-star prospect, the 69th best running back nationally in '24 and the No. 13 player overall in Indiana for the cycle. He does not have a ranking on On3 or Rivals at the time of publishing.

Williams becomes the eighth known verbal commitment in the cycle. He's the first student-athlete projected as a running back in the group.

"It feels great to have my college. Now I can focus on enjoying my senior year and getting ready for the season," he said.
