Cardinals earn ACC Player of the Week honors


After its most productive offensive performance of the season, Louisville football had four players earn ACC Player of the Week honors. The Cardinals defeated Boston College 41-39 at Cardinal Stadium Oct. 5, ending a nine-game conference losing streak.

Javian Hawkins was named Back of the Week. He rushed for 172 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries against Boston College. Hawkins, a redshirt freshman, has rushed for 562 yards, averaging 112.4 yards per game while leading Louisville in all purpose yards through five games.

Hawkins' 172-yard performance was career-high and his third game surpassing 100 yards on the ground.

Seth Dawkins earned Receiver of the Week honors after finishing with six catches for 170 yards and a touchdown. Dawkins had just four catches prior to the game against Boston College in his senior year, but made big plays against the Eagles.

Dawkins had a 59-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter along with a 77-yard reception in the second half. He set career highs for catches and receiving yards in the win.

Blanton Creque may have missed his first field goal as time expired in the first half, but that didn't bother him as he made a field goal in the third quarter and sent in the game-winning kick from 41 yards with 1:02 left and the Cardinals trailing by one point.

Creque was named the Special Teams Player of the Week. He ranks third in program history in made field goals.

Mekhi Becton and the rest of Louisville's offensive line didn't allow a sack as the Cardinals finished with over 650 yards of offense against Boston College. The junior left tackle was selected the Offensive Lineman of the Week after eight recorded knockdowns and grading out at 88 percent.
