Video: Juwan Howard Explains How Things Work With Zavier Simpson On The Bench

Michigan basketball is 2-0 after a nice win over the Creighton Bluejays.

Michigan head basketball coach Juwan Howard spoke with the media after a 79-69 win over Creighton and specifically talked about how the team must adjust and perform when senior point guard Zavier Simpson is on the bench.

Brown's Breakdown

Simpson had one of his worst statistical games as a Wolverine in the season opener against Appalachian State so it felt like he would probably turn it around against Creighton and he did.

The senior was very efficient as he scored 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting, dished out nine assists and only turned the ball over four times in almost 34 minutes of action. He got into the paint and downhill toward the rim whenever he wanted, which really made it tough on Creighton defenders. He found senior Jon Teske and junior Isaiah Liver multiple times for open shots allowing them to score 17 and 22 respectively.

When Simpson is on the floor, things are just easier for Michigan. That's not surprising for a senior point guard with exceptional leadership skills but it's definitely something to pay attention to as the season progresses in terms of others picking up the slack and Simpson staying healthy and out of foul trouble.
