Video: Good Michigan Morning 04/06/20

There's two ways to look at Michigan's 2021 recruiting class so far -- how it actually looks, and then how it looks compared to Ohio State. And each way leads to dramatically different conclusions.

Feel free to come at me in the comments, but this is further confirmation to me why I needed to exile the no-longer-a-rivalry until Michigan makes it one.

UM Basketball recruiting is so much more exciting than their football recruiting... I never thought I'd be saying that again in my lifetime. At least we now have a shot at elite talent in bball... In football we rarely get truely elite talent and when we do, we don't properly utilize it (DPJ, Peppers, Gary). More often than not though, we just get the 2nd tier scraps. Leftovers from the table that the Bamas, Georgias, and OSUs of college football are sitting at.

The Wolverines will travel to Columbus in November. Geez, why am I bringing that up? Ohio will beat UofM on any field on any day. I just really want to get a coach in there that will prepare, develop, and lead his players to victory. Who is that coach? Les Miles...nah. Bob Stoops...prolly not. Darn, I can't think of anyone. I'd like it if Gattis remains, but we really need a HC. Who will bring a BigTen championship trophy to Ann Arbor, Steve?

And here goes Steve again downplaying the gap that exists between OSU and Michigan.

As it currently stands, OSU #1 in the nation with an average of 95.34, Michigan #14 at 90.74. And the lone 5 star in the recruiting class is a quarterback that is not likely to see any action until McCaffrey and Milton and gone.

Michigan only has 6 commits for 2021 so far... OSU has 15, 13 of which are elite 4 and 5 star.

The talent gap is huge. And that's why I don't blame Steve for saying there is no rivalry, it doesn't exist to him and to not bother watching until Michigan can prove they can hang in there with them. I just disagree with him on how large the talent gap is. It's much larger than he likes to play it off as being.

However, I can appreciate him putting more pressure on the coaching staff, that they should infact be able to be more competitive with the players they have and develop them better, I won't disagree, but at the same time, the talent gap is real and it is significant.

Steve, I agree with you. I have no idea when we will be competitive with OSU on the field again. But why do we have to get some recruit from NJ, Guidice, that is rated so low that Rutgers didn’t want him. In fact the only teams that was interested in him was MAC schools, service academy schools and Temple. Why can’t we get the top rated recruits from our state? Jimmy has nothing more to sell them. Until we can beat OSU, win the big ten conference and go to the playoffs this is what we will get for recruits. The only reason why 5 star QB JJ McCarthy is coming here is OSU told him that they didn’t want him. So he is coming here. If OSU wanted him our recruiting class would look even worse.
