Video & Analysis: Ronnie Bell Speaks Highly Of Shea Patterson's Skills And Ability To Rally

Ronnie Bell had good things to say about his quarterback after a three catch, 98 yard performance against Illinois.

Not a lot of people are high on Michigan's senior quarterback Shea Patterson through six games but sophomore wide receiver Ronnie Bell seems to be. The 6-0, 184-pounder is pacing the Wolverines in both catches and yards and seems to have a great rapport with Patterson. It's no surprise that Bell had good things to say about Patterson after the Illinois game, despite a third quarter that everyone in support of U-M would like to forget.

Brown's Breakdown

"I really hope that Bell and his fellow wide receivers actually feel this way about Shea Patterson. Fans and media certainly haven't been speaking about the U-M quarterback like this but if Bell and the other pass catchers on the roster genuinely have Shea's back and see him as a playmaker and someone that can rally them in a time of need, that's all that matters.

"Bell probably does fully support Patterson because of how he's being used. He's been targeted more than any other receiver and leads the team in receptions and yards. I genuinely wonder about the other receivers, though.

"I still don't know where to go with Patterson. I know he hasn't been very good but I've been in his camp for a long time now. I just can't imagine either Dylan McCaffrey or Joe Milton being significantly better. If they are, then the coaches have failed in a big way. I just don't see big time college coaches sitting guys who are better, even if it's only by a little bit. This is their livelihood, reputation and a lot of money on the line. They aren't going to compromise.

"At the end of the day, Michigan is 5-1 with Patterson at the helm. The offense has been down right bad at times but if it gets going, especially this weekend, this team could still achieve a lot of its goals. I'm not optimistic, but it is still a possibility."
