Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh and his staff recruited wide receiver Mike Sainristil for a reason and earlier tonight against the Irish, Sainristil showed a few of those reasons.
The speedy, 5-10, 183-pounder led the Wolverines with three catches for 73 yards and a touchdown. Sainristil had two very nice catches earlier in the game including a 34-yard grab and run to convert on third down where he showed elite quickness that sprung him wide open. He also showed the ability to make a guy miss in the open field on his late-game touchdown catch.
Harbaugh grinned ear to ear when asked about Sainristil and broke down the freshman's year and explained why his production has been a little slow going considering how much we heard about him since he enrolled in January.
Everyone was really excited about Sainristil because we heard so much about him as an early enrollee but the playing time and numbers have not been there. Coming into the Notre Dame game he had just one catch for eight yards but he sparked against the Irish.
Sainristil was described as a very athletic, quick and fast slot receiver coming out of high school and he showcased that on Michigan's final touchdown with just over four minutes remaining in the game.
The balance and ability to stop on a dime and rev it back up in a hurry is what made Sainristil the Gatorade Player of the Year in Massachusetts last year. He'll have his time to shine at Michigan and tonight was everyone's first glimpse of what he can do in space.
How good can Sainristil be? How do you think he finishes the year with some confidence and a score under his belt? Comment below!!!
