Three Athletes Test Positive for COVID-19 at Michigan State

Michigan State announces three additional student-athletes have tested positive for coronavirus.

Friday afternoon Michigan State reported they tested 38 additional student-athletes on July 13 for coronavirus, and three saw positive results.

MSU said none of the three athletes participated in workouts for the previous two weeks. One person had been quarantined, one was in isolation, and another received their first test.

Three other individuals will be required to quarantine because they are roommates with the athletes who yielded positive results.

Daily check-ins with the athletic training staff will occur while the individuals remain isolated.

Michigan State says, "further testing and physician follow-up will be required prior to returning to any level of workouts."

Of the 27 staff members tested for COVID-19 on Monday one was positive; however, the school stated the individual doesn't work with sports programs. So, they had zero exposure to student-athletes.

Michigan State has administered more than 500 COVID-19 tests since the beginning of June, and eight have been positive.

"Prior to student-athletes returning to campus, an additional 15-20 members of MSU's medical and athletic training staff were tested in order to prepare for the student-athletes," MSU Athletics said in a statement released earlier today. "All of those tests were negative."
