Dantonio Lands Another Big Commitment For 2009 Recruiting Class

Â
While others suspected that the monster offensive tackle (6’7 ½” 285#) David Barrent was a Hawkeye (he had previously committed there) he informed MSU tonight that he is going to be a Spartan. No doubt that the multi talented left tackle will get his shot to anchor the offensive line at MSU and his addition is simple taking MSU’s recruiting to a new level.

Â
I talked with him tonight from his West Des Moines, IA home and he had this to say about being a Spartan, “Earlier in the spring I came there and was very impressed. They are really good people. I got to speak to people in their engineering department and I really liked that. One thing that really stuck out to me was how disciplined and structured the whole program is.”

Â
I asked him about coming in and contributing right away. “I talked with Coach Mannie and he said he could get me ready, but that really depends upon whether I am willing to put in the work.” The obvious question I posed to David was... "are you ready?" “Oh yea.”

Â
Barrent is extremely agile and has great speed. He also creates great seperation in his pass blocking. Like so many other recruits, Barrent also was impressed with the reception he received while on campus. “Everywhere I turned people knew who I was. They all stopped and talked and it really is a family.” This is consistent with everything we've heard from recruits since the Dantonio regime arrived.

Â
Also a recurring theme under the Dantonio regime is Dantonio's recruiting approach. Barrent echoed what many of the other star recruits have said, “They never pushed at MSU. They told me how many spots they had left and they never once tried to pressure me.”

Â
Barrent is considered among the best offensive tackles in the nation and had interest from schools all over the nation to prove it. “I am very comfortable in my decision…it is good to be a Spartan. My recruiting process is done.”

Â
We agree David and welcome to the Spartan Nation!
