Three Up or Three Down: Grading #18/21 Spartan Football POST INDIANA

  1. DOWN: Spartan Running Game it is really bad. Mark Dantonio has not given up saying after IU, “We are going to continue to hammer at it.”
  2. UP: Defensive Line Chuck Bullough and Ron Burton are the DL coaches and they have done a superb job. Five sacks for MSU vs IU and Dantonio said of his blossoming DL, “We brought people to the point of attack. We got good players up front, and they can not only hold their own, but they can make create some plays.”
  3. UP: Matt “McLovin” Coghlin Not only is McLovin nailing his kicks, he now is a TD machine. MSU expanded their lead in Bloomington to a 28-7 by using another trick on special teams. They lined up for a FG and Dantonio called for “Rocks” their fake field goal play from the IU 6-yard line, Brian Lewerke was the holder and when he got the ball he got up and ran the option to his right, he flipped the ball to kicker Matt Coghlin, who ran in the touchdown.

Mark Dantonio said after the win over IU that, "We talked about what's our identity as a football team coming into here, who are we going to be, we've got to start building on our identity. We had to come with full focus and I thought we had full focus throughout the entire trip, especially today."

The MSU identity should never change. It should be married to winning and not necessarily how they get there. This team is very predictable in their play calling and it is hurting them
