Do the Lions Dinner Plans for Tonight Mean Help for the O Line?

Â
Tonight the Lions will be going to dinner with a Michigan native. Did I forget to mention that he is a Michigan native that stands 6’6” and weighs 340 pounds by the way? A Michigan native that would like nothing better than to end his free agent tour in Detroit and not have to go any farther. Oh by the way, did I add that he plays the right tackle spot that the Lions desperately need to fill? That players name is L.J. Shelton.

Â
The Lions are able to pursue Shelton because the Dolphins handed him his outright release on February 11. Teams are technically not allowed to talk to free agents until the end of this week, but with Shelton having been given an outright release that makes it possible. Shelton (when in shape) can be a dominant force. He is experience in multiple positions (something Marinelli treasures) and wants to be a Lion.

Â
If the Lions were to sign Shelton, it would be to an incentive filled contract with certain issues such as weight and condition figured in. That won’t bother Shelton who wants to be here and at the same time protects the Lions from a Shaun Rogers and Damien Woody type incident with being out of shape.

Â
Will the Lions dismal record over the past, the Lions have to look for players that want to be here, so as not to have to overpay. After dinner tonight, Shelton will meet again with Lions officials on Wednesday.
