Detroit, MI…Detroit Red Wings General Manager Ken Holland today announced that the Red Wings have acquired forward Kyle Calder from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for forward Jason Williams.

Calder was acquired by Chicago from Philadelphia earlier this evening in exchange for Lasse Kukkonen and Chicago’s third-round pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

“We know Kyle very well as we played against him several times when he was in our division as a Blackhawk,” said Holland.

“I also saw him compete for Team Canada at the 2006 World Championships when I was the General Manager.

Kyle is a gritty, competitive player who goes to the hard areas of the ice and makes us harder to play against.”
