Spartan Nation’s T.J. Duckett has all the right moves in Lions OTA’s!

Â
“He got the majority of the reps today and his work ethic and knowledge of the system was the reason why,” those are the words of one of the most prominent offensive players on the Lions about his new teammate T.J. Duckett. The respect that Duckett has gotten in his short time in Detroit from his teammates is directly related to his work ethic and the fact that coming in he knew how difficult the Martz system was and he has worked very hard in the weight room and the class room.

Â
“You just can’t step in with this system and learn as you go. Coach Martz has created the most difficult and best system in the NFL and for T.J. to come in, and to demonstrate his understanding early, that really impressed me. I think we all got the hint that he was as committed to this as we are when today in practice he picked up a blitz that you had to understand how this Martz system worked to get, and he got it. The O line loves the guy because they know he will have their back. Last year there was a lot of blame but this team struggled with guys who either didn’t have the ability physically or didn’t understand enough the blocking schemes to pick up a blitz. That ain’t the deal with him and that helps…a lot.”

Â
Duckett has come in with his mouth shut and just kept his head down (in a play book) and worked. One of his offensive teammates late last week commented to me about his work ethic in the weight room, “he gives it all and I agree with the people that called him a freak. His strength and speed will make him real dangerous, I’m glad I’m not trying to tackle that.”

I was at the OTA's this week and will of course attend all the sessions and keep you up to date.
