DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers today announced the club has acquired righthanded pitcher Jose Capellan from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for Single A Lakeland lefthanded pitcher Chris Cody.
Â
Capellan appeared in seven games with the Brewers in 2007, compiling a 0-2 record and 4.50 ERA (12.0IP/6ER) after being recalled from Triple A Nashville on June 1. In 17 outings (three starts) with Nashville, he finished 3-2 with a 3.86 ERA (28.0IP/12ER).
Â
“Capellan has a good arm and major league experience and we feel he will help us in our bullpen,” Tigers President, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager David Dombrowski said.
Â
In four seasons at the major league level, Capellan is 5-6 with a 4.70 ERA (107.1IP/56ER) in 88 appearances. He finished 4-2 with a 4.40 ERA (71.2IP/35ER) in 61 outings with Milwaukee in 2006.
Â
Cody posted a 5-5 record and 1.77 ERA (91.1IP/18ER) in 14 starts with Single A West Michigan this season, before taking the loss after allowing two runs in four innings during his only start with Lakeland. He will be assigned to Single A Brevard County in the Florida State League by the Brewers.
