EAST LANSING, Mich. - Senior Lindsey Hansen of the Michigan State softball has been named Big Ten Player of the Week as announced by the conference office today (March 7). For Hansen, this marks her second weekly honor in her career.

The Valparaiso, Fla., native led the Spartans last weekend at the Miken Classic offensively batting .750 while driving in 11 runs. Hansen aided in MSU's 3-1 record while posting three multi-hit and multi-RBI games in finishing 9-for-12 at the plate. The Spartan shortstop drove in four RBIs against Seton Hall after recording three against Providence and South Carolina.

Her weekend was capped off with a 4-for-4 performance in MSU's 15-5 win over the Pirates to conclude the tournament for the Spartans. Hansen's two home runs this weekend improved to career total to 29. Hansen now trails Stacey Phillips' all-time career mark of 31 by two homers.

Hansen powered MSU in its win over South Carolina on Saturday to a come from behind win. Trailing USC 7-5, Hansen ripped the game-winning homer in the sixth inning to power the Green and White past the Gamecocks, 8-7. Hansen also stole two bases and scored seven runs while finishing the weekend with a 1.583 slugging mark.

This was MSU's first player of the week honor since Jessica Bracamonte on March 15, 2010. Earlier this season freshman Cassee Layne nabbed freshman player of the week honors on Feb. 21.

Hansen and the Spartans return to action tomorrow (March 8) when they face Florida Atlantic in a doubleheader in Boca Raton, Fla., beginning at 6 p.m.
