MSU Football: Drew Beesley Makes Defensive Line of the Week

Michigan State defensive end Drew Beesley received some recognition for his week one performance against Rutgers.

East Lansing, MI – Last Saturday, Michigan State football lost to Rutgers 38-27 in week one of the regular season.

With seven turnovers (plus two turnovers on downs), few positives have been taken from the loss.

The Spartan defense allowed 38-points; however, Rutgers received the ball in MSU territory on more than one occasion due to the abundance of ball security issues and took advantage of good field position.

Following Rutgers' touchdown on the opening drive (10-plays for 75 yards and a score), Michigan State held the Scarlet Knights to 201 yards while forcing three turnovers.

Despite the loss, DE Drew Beesley had six tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, one sack, and a forced fumble.

In light of his performance, the Spartan defensive end was named to PFF's defensive line of the week.

The redshirt senior is joined by Jayson Oweh (Penn State), Elijah Chatman (SMU), and Chidozie Nwankwo (Houston).

Antjuan Simmons led the way with 11 tackles, three for a loss, and one QBH (quarterback hurry).

As a whole, the Spartan defense compiled 80 tackles, two sacks, 11 tackles for a loss, one interception, three pass break-ups, and two forced fumbles.
