Hildebrand Named Big Ten’s First Star of the Week

ROSEMONT, Illinois - Michigan State junior goaltender Jake Hildebrand was named the Big Ten’s First Star of the Week, it was announced Tuesday by the conference office. It is the second time this season Hildebrand has been named the league’s first star and the fourth time in his career. It is his sixth career Big Ten weekly award.

The goaltender stopped 55 of the 56 shots he faced last weekend in the Spartans’ two-game sweep of Ohio State. In Friday’s 4-1 win, Hildebrand stopped 33 pucks. The following night, he posted his second shutout of the season and sixth of his career with a 22-save performance in a 2-0 victory.

The native of Butler, Pennsylvania, leads all Big Ten goalies with a 2.41 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage. Hildebrand has started all 22 games this season.

The Spartans will take on 13th-ranked Michigan this Friday at Joe Louis Arena at 7:30 p.m.
