MHSAA Boys' Basketball - Finishing Strong To End The Regular Season

The month of February is nearing an end. Leap Year day is this coming Wednesday. District action begins a week from Monday. We are really pushing into the most exciting part of boys’ basketball season! Sorry the articles have been so short lately, it’s been pretty hectic around the Cottrell household. Plus with no century club members this week, the column is rather brief. On with the show!

Low Score of the Week

Walled Lake Central 25 Howell 24 (49 points)

Sometimes, it all comes down to one shot. That was the case in this game. The loss knocked Howell out of the championship round in the KLAA tournament. Pete Cender scored ten points in the losing effort.

High Score of the Week

Muskegon 98 Jenison 88 (2OT) (186 points)

It was back and forth throughout the game. One team would take a lead, and end up relinquishing it. Muskegon had a chance to win the game in regulation, but the shot with six seconds remaining did not fall. They did shoot an amazing 54 free throws on the night. Juwan Loudermill scored 23 points in the winning effort. He was followed by Travell Oakes with 17 points. On the Jension side, Eric Evans led all scoring with 38 points. Nick Wenchel scored 16 and Tyler Fredricks scored 15.

Coach Cottrell’s BLOWOUT of the Week

Pellston 85 Onaway 27 (58 points)

The Pellston squad is having a nice season. They won the Ski Valley League title for the first time since the 2005-2006 season. Chris Hass scored 33 points in the winning effort.
