Kevin Wilson is stepping in at Indiana for the fired Bill Lynch and was present at his first Big Ten media day this year.  Here are the highlights from his press conference:

ON RECRUITING:

“Key thing we’ve done is recruiting our current team.”

“We’re not trying to be good for our 5 years from now.”

“We’ve had very little attrition.”

“We’re off to a good start with commitments, but there is a lot of water to still go over the dam.”

ON HIS QUARTERBACK SITUATION:

“You don’t anoint a quarterback.”

“I haven’t watched a single snap of them playing last season.”

“You have to earn the position and earn the respect of your peers.”

“I sleep very comfortably having see what I did this spring.”

“Don’t plan on playing two, don’t want a quarterback looking over his shoulder”

ON TAKING OVER A TROUBLED INDIANA PROGRAM:

“I’ve been fortunate to be a part of programs that turned it around.”

ON HIS RUNNING BACK SITUATION:

“Hard to be a bell cow at that position.”

“You want to have 2 or 3 options.”

ON FOLLOWING BILL LYNCH:

“I knew all of those guys, and they were all great people. And because of that they recruited great kids.”

“This was the process that allows you to have great teams.”

ON WHAT HE LIKES ABOUT HIS TEAM SO FAR:

“I like the leanness of our football team. I don’t see guys that look like me.”

ON THE BIG TEN VS. THE BIG TWELVE:

“I haven’t done a great deal of trying to study, because to me that tape is so generic. Until you’re on the sidelines and up close and personal, I think you get some false impressions.”
