Michigan State accepted an invitation to the Champs Bowl played in Orlando, Florida December 28, 2007. Michigan State earned its first post season bid in four years after their disastrous loss to Nebraska in the 2003 Alamo Bowl. In Mark Dantonio’s first year as Spartan head coach, he did the unimaginable and got this MSU team into a bowl game after three straight losing seasons.
Mark Dantonio set the bar very high making a bowl game appearance part of preseason expectations. Michigan State will face Boston College in this sunshine showdown. The game promises to be a very exciting game as both MSU and BC are two of the best offensive teams in their respective conferences.
Having an ACC and a Big Ten team in this game represents two big power conferences and a ton of recruiting exposure in a state that is chalked full of high school talent. Michigan State has been very successful in years past recruiting Florida and features four key players in their rotation from the sunshine state. SirDarean Adams, TJ Williams, Brett Swenson and Nehemiah Warrick all hail from Florida.
MSU last played a Florida bowl game in 2000 beating the University of Florida in an offensive Citrus Bowl showcase. Plaxico Burress, TJ Duckett and Julian Peterson powered Michigan State to a victory in front of a large MSU contingent. It is likely that MSU was chosen ahead of IU and Purdue because they traveled so well to Orlando in 2000. Michigan State looks to continue its season ending momentum with a win in Orlando. Hope to see you all there.
