Being a girl who loves sports, I find myself hanging around others that like sports as much as I do, and that’s typically guys. I don’t hang around guys who try and act macho. I hang around guys who are caring and considerate of women. Hondo is a great example of that. He’ll open doors and is considerate if there are women around. Here’s another example of men showing they care.Â

On Sunday, May 14, 2006, more than 50 of the baseball players in the major leagues will be using pink bats in honor of Mother’s Day. This is a weeklong program to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. On the bats will be a breast cancer awareness ribbon and the quote “Going to bat against breast cancer, Mother’s Day 2006.” Also, the bats will also have the names of the players’ mothers’ printed on them. Afterwards, the bats will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

“My mom is the glue of our family, and I just want to do something to thank her for all that she has done,” said Kevin Mench, a Texas Ranger Outfielder. “At the same time, we are raising money for a great cause.”

Jim Thome, Manny Ramirez, Adam Dunn, David Ortiz, and Mark Teixeira are among the more than 50 players planning to use these bats Sunday.
