Brookens Promoted to Manage Erie, DePastino Hired to Manage West Michigan

DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers today announced two changes in the minor league managerial assignments for the 2008 season.

Tom Brookens, previously slated to manage the West Michigan Whitecaps in the Midwest League, has been promoted to manage the Erie Seawolves in the Eastern League. Brookens replaces Matt Walbeck, who was recently hired as the third base coach for the Texas Rangers. In his first season with the Whitecaps, Brookens led the club to the Midwest League Championship and he was named the league’s manager of the year.

The Tigers have hired Joe DePastino to replace Brookens as manager at West Michigan. DePastino is in his first professional managerial assignment after playing 13 professional seasons as a catcher from 1992-2005.
