UM’s John Beilein settles his contract buyout with WVU

Hw was able to get WVU to lessen the buyout. I could get no one to give me the exact amount but sources at WVU refused to tell me that the information I had gotten from a UM source that it was lowered from $2.5 million to $1.5 million was not accurate. Speculation also centers that they will let him pay off the amount over the five years of his deal with UM. I can also tell you that sources close to the situation informed me that Beilein has some people with interest in the UM program (but not the University) that will help possibly him with it. It is also very important to point out that there is nothing wrong with that.  Here are Beilein’s comments on the deal being resolved:

Â
“With this agreement the matter of my contract with West Virginia has been resolved.
Â
“Although it is the time to look ahead to a promising future of University of Michigan Basketball, my family and I will always treasure the five years we spent in West Virginia. We will miss the great fans of West Virginia University and especially the young men who just helped us win the 2007 NIT Championship.
Â
“Bob Huggins is a fortunate man to have an opportunity to coach this special group of student-athletes who will be returning from that team. I am sure what they were able to accomplish with that NIT postseason run, will always be remembered in Mountaineer Basketball history.
Â
“I will take great pride in following the future success of that team and all of the other student-athletes who I had the privilege to coach while at West Virginia.”
