Incoming Spartan Lexi Gussert Named Michigan's Miss Basketball

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State women's basketball signee Lexi Gussert of Forest Park High School in Crystal Park, Mich., was named the 2014 Miss Basketball for the state of Michigan, it was announced today by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) and the Detroit Free Press.

Gussert, a 6-0 forward, leads Forest Park to the Breslin Center this week for the Class D state semifinals, after a 69-56 victory over Posen on Tuesday night. The Lady Trojans will face Athens at 7:50 p.m. on Thursday.

Gussert has totaled 2,593 career points, currently the fourth-most in state history and the most-ever in the Upper Peninsula. This season, she is averaging 29.4 points, and broke the state’s 3-point field goal record with 101 on the year.

On Tuesday, Gussert was also named Michigan’s Associated Press Class D Player of the Year for the second-straight season.

Four of the last five recipients of Michigan’s Miss Basketball will have played at Michigan State, as Gussert joins the list of Klarissa Bell (2010), Jasmine Hines (2011) and Tori Jankoska (2013).
