MSU Wrestling Incoming Freshman Peyton Omania Qualifies For Team USA At Junior Worlds

INDIANAPOLIS -- Michigan State wrestling incoming freshman Peyton Omania earned an invitation to represent Team USA at the 2018 Junior World Wrestling Championships after he won the 67-kg division at the USA Wrestling Greco-Roman World Team Trials on Friday in Indianapolis.

Omani will be in action with Team USA in Trnava, Slovakia at the Junior Worlds, Sept. 17-24.

Two other Spartan wrestlers had solid outings, as Cameron Caffeywas runner-up at 87 kg, while Rayvon Foley was third in the 55 kg division.

Omani defeated Dominick Demas, from Oklahoma, in a best two-of-three finals, rallying after dropping the first bout, 5-4. The future Spartan bounced back to win the second by a 10-2 major decision, then earned his Team USA berth with an 8-2 decision in the third bout.

Caffey won the challenge tournament before losing to Barrett Hughes of Oklahoma State to finish runner-up. Foley defeated Elijah Varona in an 8-0 major decision.
