Once again, it’s Thursday and time to take a look at boys prep basketball around the state.Â
March is drawing near and it’s time to get into the District games. I have one more column before it starts and I’ll be getting in touch with Hondo about my credentials for the championship Saturday (March 27, just over a month from now). Not that we’ve reiterated how close the next section of the boys basketball season is, let’s take a look at the action from this past week.
High Score of the Week/Century Club Part 12
Whitmore Lake 110 Petersburg-Summerfield 86 (196 points)
Whitmore Lake scored 35 points in the first quarter and avenged a loss to Petersburg-Summerfield from earlier this season. They made 25 three-pointers in the game! Colton Judge hit eight of them and scored 31 points. Alex Cattley had 20 points including four three-pointers. For Petersburg, Eric Cogan scored 42. The win sets up a huge game for Whitmore Lake on March 2nd…the final league game against first place Clinton, whom they trail by one game.
Low Score of the Week
Kimball New Life Christian 39 New Haven Merritt 21 (60 points)
With so many small academies/religious schools, the newspapers don’t write up a whole lot of them. This was the case in this situation.
Coach Cottrell’s Blowout of the Week
McBain 81 Marion 29 (52 points)
This game was dominated from the opening tip. McBain outscored Marion 21-5 in the first quarter and led 39-25 at the half. In the third quarter, the Ramblers outscored Marion 28-1. Ryan Hoekwater had 15 points for McBain while Drew Bronkema scored 12. Jarid Frederick scored nine points for Marion in the losing effort.
