Frank Solich is a vote away from of the College Football Hall of Fame.

The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame has announced the names of players and coaches for the 2024 ballot. This is Solich's second year on the ballot.

Solich is one of nine coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision on the ballot. He was an assistant at Nebraska from 1979-1997 before taking over as the head coach through 2003. He closed his career at Ohio from 2005 to 2020.

In total, 179 players and 41 coaches are up for selection.

Solich compiled a 58-19 record in his six seasons at Nebraska and led the Huskers to the 1999 Big 12 Conference championship. Nebraska finished No. 3 in the AP poll that year after beating Tennessee in the Fiesta Bowl. Two seasons later, Solich's Huskers played for the national championship in the Rose Bowl against Miami.

At Ohio, Solich coached the Bobcats to 12 winning seasons, 11 bowl appearances and four MAC East Division titles. His 115-82 record at Ohio makes him the winningest coach in Mid-American Conference history.

Solich played fullback at Nebraska under coach Bob Devaney from 1963 to '65 and joined the Husker coaching staff as an assistant in 1979 after a successful run as a high school coach. He took over as the Huskers' head coach in 1998 following Tom Osborne's retirement.

The Hall of Fame ballot was emailed Monday to the more than 12,000 NFF members and current Hall of Famers whose votes will be tabulated and submitted to the NFF’s Honors Court, which will deliberate and select the class. The Honors Court includes an elite and geographically diverse pool of athletic administrators, Hall of Famers and members of the media.

The 2024 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be announced early next year, and the official induction will take place Dec. 10, 2024, in Las Vegas.
