Husker Doc Talk: Recruiting and Gambling
Two bald guys walk into a bar in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to record a podcast. (Go ahead and finish the joke on your own). It's no joke, as Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice were guests at Barley's in Council Bluffs to record their last Doc Talk podcast of 2021.
Recording in a bar is a lot different than recording in the studio, and over the next hour and twenty minutes, you might think we go in 50 different directions. But here's what we can tell you, we cover a lot of things, including:
- The early signing period and what the "rankings" mean for Nebraska.
- Legal sports gambling is not that far away, just across the river and bet with Circa Sports.
- Steve Sipple from the Lincoln Journal Star makes his first appearance on the podcast.
We also sit down with the owner of Circa Sports, Derek Stevens. How does a Michigan man end up owning not one but three casinos? Also, Circa Sports Vice President of Operations Mike Palm joins us. Although Mike is a bigwig in the gambling world, his road to Vegas is unique. Undergrad at Notre Dame, teaching at a Catholic middle school and dealing poker. Oh, and he's a Nebraska fan! An interview with Mike turns into Mike interviewing Dr. Rob, and it's classic!
