Sophomore Nebraska offensive lineman Ethan Piper was named Thursday to the preseason watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy. The award is presented annually to the player considered to be college football's top community servant.

Piper, who is from Norfolk, Neb., has volunteered with a Day of Service, Husker Heroes, the Nebraska Football Road Race, and local hospital and school outreach events. He received the Sam Foltz 27 Hero Leadership Award in 2021 and has been named to the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team and the Brook Berringer Citizenship Team two times each. Piper is also a nominee for the 2022 AFCA Good Works Team.

After redshirting in 2019, Piper started the final seven games of 2020 at left guard. He played in five games in 2021, including starts in the first three games.

Piper is the fourth Husker to be named this week to a preseason watch list. Linebacker Luke Reimer is on the Butkus Award list, edge rusher Ochaun Mathis is on the Nagurski Trophy list, and punter Brian Buschini is on the Ray Guy Award list.

The winner of the Wuerffel award will be announced Dec. 8. There are 115 players on the watch list.
