Who’s that Wildcat: WR Stephon Robinson Jr

The Kansas transfer will look to make a major impact on Northwestern’s passing game.

WR Stephon Robinson Jr

Height: 5’10" Weight: 165 lbs

Hometown: Torrance, CA

High School: Narbonne

Previous Colleges: El Camino College, Kansas University

Evaluation:

Robinson is a proven commodity at the Power 5 level. In his junior season with the Kansas Jayhawks, he posted 45 catches for 727 yards, which ranked seventh in the Big 12.

On the field, Robinson is an extremely agile receiver who blends his quickness with quick cuts and changes of direction. He also has the explosiveness to create big plays out of nothing. He has the ability to turn what looks like a minor gain into a highlight-level run. In fact, Robinson told Wildcat Report that he’ll bring "speed, explosiveness and the ability to make the big play" to Northwestern next season.

His speed should not be understated either. He consistently uses his wheels to gain an extra step on his defender while running his route. Robinson also has the strength and grit to extend a play through heavy hits.

Although he’s not the tallest of receivers, Robinson is a reliable option who quarterbacks can trust in big moments.

Playing time projection:

Robinson will have the opportunity to make a major impact on Northwestern’s 2021 offense. After losing multiple options last season to the NFL Draft and transfers, Northwestern has plenty of question marks at the wide receiver position.

In Robinson the Wildcats now have a proven receiver who has shown that when healthy, he has the ability to be one of the top receivers in the country.
