Michael Trautwein Drafted by Cincinnati Reds

The Wildcat was selected in the 13th Round of the 2021 MLB Draft.

Northwestern C/OF Michael Trautwein was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 13th Round (390th overall) in the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft.

Trautwein's bat was hot at the end of his junior campaign in 2021. The 6'1", 185 pound C/OF recorded his first career grand slam in a series-opening win over Michigan State on March 12th. Trautwein then recorded five consecutive games with home runs after hitting homers in the final two games of the Wildcats' series against Minnesota (3/21-3/22) and all three games against Illinois (3/26-3/28). Trautwein capped off the 2021 season with two more homers in a three game series against Rutgers (4/9-4/11).

Trautwein finished the 2021 season with 11 home runs, 35 runs batted in, 215 putouts, and a .977 fielding percentage.

The Reds will retain the rights to sign Trautwein until August 1st, or until he elects to return to Northwestern or another four-year college on a full-time basis.

Per Major League Baseball's first-year player draft rules, "a player who is drafted and does not sign with the Club that selected him may be drafted again at a future year's Draft, so long as the player is eligible for that year's Draft. A Club may not select a player again in a subsequent year, unless the player has consented to the re-selection."
