NFL SCOUTING COMBINE WEIGH INS - DEFENSIVE LINE

The defensive linemen were measured and weighed this morning, and a pair of former Notre Dame players had extremely impressive results.

Khalid Kareem

Height: 6-3 6/8
Weight: 268
Hands: 10 7/8"
Arms: 34 3/8"
Wingspan: 84"

Julian Okwara

Height: 6-4 2/8
Weight: 252
Hands: 10 2/8"
Arms: 34 3/8"
Wingspan: 81 6/8"

No defensive end had a longer wingspan than Kareem, and only one defensive lineman total (DT Raekwon Davis, Alabama) had a longer wingspan. Only two defensive linemen had longer arms than Kareem (AJ Epenesa, Yetur Gross-Matos).

Okwara's wingspan was Top 5 for defensive ends and was also extremely impressive. Both were also heavier than they were at Notre Dame, at least listed weight. Okwara's 252 pounds was much-needed, assuming he can still move well whenever he is cleared to do so.

The top end in the draft - Ohio State's Chase Young - had 33 6/8" arms and an 80 5/8" wingspan, for comparison sake.

These measurements are important for ends because this year's tackle class has exceptional length, and Kareem is one of the very few DE's who can match them.

Look at some of these lengths for the top tackles.

Jedrick Wills, Alabama - 83 4/8"
Tristan Wirfs, Iowa - 80 2/8"
Mekhi Becton, Louisville - 83 2/8"
Andrew Thomas, Georgia - 83 4/8"
Josh Jones, Houston - 79 7/8"
Austin Jackson, USC - 82"
Isaiah Wilson, Georgia - 84 3/8"

For comparison's sake, a bit more.

Jerry Tiller, who measured in at 6-6 1/2 at the Combine, had 34 2/8" arms and a wingspan of 81" Kareem's arms are slightly longer but his wingspan is enormous and three inches longer than Tillery.
