Notre Dame senior right guard Tommy Kraemer went down in the first half f the 45-14 loss at Michigan and did not return to the game. Head coach Brian Kelly announced during his pre-Virginia Tech press conference that Kraemer er suffered a MCL sprain in his knee.

Kraemer is expected to miss anywhere from four to six weeks. If it's the latter it would put Kraemer out for the remainder of the regular season.

The senior was named a mid-season All-American by both the Associated Press and Sporting News.

Kelly said that fifth-year senior Trevor Ruhland - who has five career starts - and junior Joshua Lugg would both get a chance to compete for the starting right guard job, but Ruhland is expected to be the first man out on Saturday against Virginia Tech.
