In the past four seasons under head coach Ryan Day, the Ohio State Buckeyes have lost six games — tied for the second fewest in that span.

Ohio State's 42 wins are tied for the fourth-most and its .875 win percentage is the third best since 2019. However, ESPN's Paul Finebaum thinks Day's pedigree and resume is not worthy of job security due to his track record against Michigan.

“Believe it or not, Ryan Day is going to be on the hot seat, according to some people, if he loses to Michigan again," Finebaum said on "SportsCenter" Friday. "Remember when Jim Harbaugh couldn’t beat anyone? Ryan Day’s had a really good run. He’s played for a championship, he’s been in the playoffs. Came within a whisker of getting back to the championship game, but fans around the country are going, ‘When are you going to win us a title like Urban (Meyer) did in 2014?'”

Ohio State has made three College Football Playoff appearances in Day's four seasons, settling for a Rose Bowl victory in 2021 in what the Buckeyes' head coach deemed not being up to the program's standards.

In Columbus, New Year's Six bowls won't suffice, but beating the Wolverines, winning the Big Ten and a national championship does.

Finebaum said Day has a "talented team that everyone would love to have."

“He’s got the best wide receiver room in the country. He’s got five-star quarterbacks," Finebaum said. "But he’s going to need to beat Michigan in Ann Arbor and he’s going to need to get to the playoffs again and do something other than lose."
